JOIN US IN CELEBRATING WACKY WINTER WALK & ROLL MONTH THIS DECEMBER OR JANUARY!   
 

While we're out walking and rolling this December and/or January, notice what's around you, keeping us safe or making the world interesting, beautiful or even a little wacky! This winter, we challenge you to get outside, explore your route to school or neighborhoods, and complete our Wacky Winter Walk & Roll Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a colorful, hand-knitted wacky winter walk & roll hat!    

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN WACKY WINTER WALK & ROLL MONTH:  
 

1.    JOIN US ON WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY!
 

DURING AT LEAST ONE DAY IN December or January - whenever your school chooses to celebrate - Walk or Bicycle to School (or anywhere!). If you're school has a Wacky Winter Walk & Roll to School event, be sure to participate, wear bright colors, and be counted! 

2.   COMPLETE AND SUBMIT OUR DECEMBER WACKY WINTER SCAVENGER HUNT FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A COLORFUL HAND-KNITTED HAT!
 

WACKY WINTER SCAVENGER HUNT INSTRUCTIONS:
 

  • Download our Scavenger Hunt in English or Spanish:  English PDF  Spanish PDF  English JPEG  Spanish JPEG
  • You do not have to find every single thing on the Scavenger Hunt - find as much as you can and submit when you have found all you can.  
  • Submit to Safe Routes to School (may be submitted via email or the mail) and received no later than Wednesday February 4th
     

ALL December-January Challenge submissions will be entered into a drawing for a colorful wacky-winter hand knit hat. Winner will be announced in February, and prize will be delivered directly to winners.   Questions?  Email Safe Routes to School

February Walk and Roll for Our HeARTS Challenge

 



 
 

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS MONTH THIS FEBRUARY!   
 

This February, we challenge you to walk & roll to school, explore your neighborhoods, and stretch your artistic muscles by drawing about what you LOVE about Walking & Rolling, for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card to a local Art Supply store and be featured in a printed "Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS" calendar!  

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS MONTH

 
1.   Participate in your school's Walk & Roll to School Day and/or walk to/from school or anywhere whenever you can! 
 
2.  DRAW A PICTURE DEMONSTRATING WHY YOU LOVE WALKING AND/OR ROLLING. Your picture should illustrate why or how it is fun and/or healthy for our hearts, minds and bodies.

3.  Then, submit your drawing to SRTS for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card to a local art supply store, and be featured in a "Walk & Roll for our HeARTS" printed wall calendar. 
 

WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Put your best effort into an original picture illustrating why walking and/or rolling is fun and/or healthy for our hearts, minds and bodies. 
  • Artwork must be 8.5"x11", and must be landscape orientation
  • All mediums are welcome: drawing, painting, mixed media, digital illustration, etc. If utilizing mixed media/collage elements, no more than 20% of collage materials may be from newspapers, magazines, books or other materials pre-printed with text or designs (such as scrapbook paper)
  • Submit a high-resolution, scanned copy in JPG or PDF format to saferoutes@bikesonoma.org OR mail to Safe Routes to School, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, PO Box 3088, Santa Rosa, CA 95402-3088
  • Include your name, school name, grade level, and homeroom teacher, and a way to contact you (phone or email) 
  • Artwork will be judged on the following criteria: creativity and originality, clarity of art's message to communicating the theme, quality and effort put into illustration, and representation of diversity and inclusivity. 
  • All entries must be received by Wednesday March 4, 2026
     

Select submissions will be chosen to be featured in our Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS Printed Wall Calendar. Wall Calendars and a $25.00 gift card will be given to the winning students. Calendars will be provided to the teacher of the winning students, and the principal of the winning students.  Questions? Email Safe Routes to School

Spring Go Green! Transportation Challenge (March & April)



 
 
 
 

CELEBRATE WALKING & ROLLING THIS SPRING WITH THE "GO GREEN!" TRANSPORTATION CHALLENGE
 

This March and April, we challenge you to Walk, Roll or Bus to School on as many days as you can during the months of March and April. Walking, biking, rolling, and bussing is good for you, good for the earth, and results in less traffic and pollution. Get together with friends, enjoy the company and/or the outdoors as the flowers and trees begin blooming, and most of all, have fun! 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GO GREEN TRANSPORTATION CHALLENGE:   
 

1. Participate in your school's Walk & Roll to School Day and/or walk, scooter, skate, bike, or bus to/from school whenever you can! 

 

2. Use the Go Green Challenge Progress Chart to keep track of the days you walk, roll or bus to school.  Download the tracking sheet: English PDF Spanish PDF English JPEG Spanish JPEG
 

3. Submit your progress ONLINE AT THIS LINK or by mail by the end of March and/or by the end of April. Submissions for March must be received by midnight on Tues 3/31. Submissions for April must be received by midnight on Thurs 4/30. 
 

4. The more trips you take, the higher chance you have of winning a prize! We will do a drawing for March submissions in early April and a drawing for April submissions in early May. 

 
Challenge submissions will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes each month! Winners will be announced in April and in May.

Idle-Free Sonoma County

 

JOIN US IN PLEDGING TO BE IDLE-FREE!   
 

We challenge you to be Idle-Free with Safe Routes to Schools! That means, turn off your car engine when waiting more than 30-seconds. Idle Free Promotional Materials may be utilized by any school at any time of year.  

HOW TO PROMOTE AN IDLE-FREE MONTH:   
 

  • Get educated about the benefits of turning off your engine when waiting more than 30-seconds!  
  • Complete our Idle Free Coloring Page (English PDF Spanish PDF  English JPEG  Spanish JPEG
  • Consider creating an Idle Free Pledge that parents can sign, using Google Forms, with an incentive for them to fill out the pledge.
